Restorative Dentistry
Fillings are used to restore teeth to their normal shape, appearance and function. They most commonly are caused by decay. Fillings can be prevented with regular dental check ups and dental hygiene appointments.
There are 2 main types of filling materials used to restore teeth
- Tooth Colored Fillings
Tooth colored fillings have been used to restore anterior teeth for many years and with recent improvements in the composite material can now also be used for molar teeth. They are bonded directly to the tooth surface meaning minimal tooth material is lost in the preparation process. There are a wide variety of shades that are able to match the shade of your natural tooth making them look aesthetically very pleasing. They are relatively inexpensive and a quick and easy restorative solution.
- Amalgam Fillings
Amalgam fillings are less commonly used but are appropriate in some cases. They are highly durable and are made up of mercury, sliver, tin, copper and zinc.
Regular dental check ups will help your dentist to be able to detect any signs of decay early.
